Ericsson and Zain Iraq enter into strategic managed services and network modernization agreement
Under the five-year managed services agreement, Ericsson will optimize, manage, operate and improve the wireless network and IT operations
Deal is part of Zain Iraq’s goal to deliver a better mobile experience on a high- quality network
Modernization of the network includes the supply of Ericsson’s radio base station RBS6000 and microwave transmission technology MINI-LINK
Zain Iraq, the country’s leading mobile telecommunications provider has signed a five-year managed services agreement under which Ericsson will optimize, modernize and manage IT operations and the mobile network that currently includes more than 3,500 sites across the country. This agreement also extends to the northern region of Kurdistan where Zain has recently launched commercial services and is expanding rapidly to meet customer demand.
Through this deal, Zain Iraq will be better positioned to support the evolution and growth of the Iraq telecommunications market. Zain currently serves over 12 million active customers in Iraq and they expect the market to continue growing in the coming years.
Mr. Emad Makiya, CEO of Zain Iraq, confident that the outsourcing agreement will have many benefits for the company and its customers, commented, "Choosing Ericsson, which has well over 15 years’ experience in managing outsourced networks to help operate our network in Iraq fits perfectly within our business objectives of improving efficiency and the quality of our networks and operations."
