Updated Nokia Transport beta with detailed line view and multiple tiles
The numbers that describe public transportation agencies around the world are impressive. On Wikipedia you can read for instance that MTA (the Metropolitan Transportation Authority New Yorkers are very familiar with) transports over 11,500,000 people every day.
Timetable in 100+ cities
Estimated route in 410+ cities

Multiple tiles to favourite destinations
Exactly for those commuters and travellers, in NYC and in several other cities around the world, we have developed Nokia Transport, now available in a new beta version you can download and test from Nokia Beta Labs.
Since we released Nokia Transport in March we have been listening to you and introduced these new features you can provide your feedback for: transport nearby with next departure times, detailed line view and support for multiple tiles.
More travel options
Nokia Transport suggests the best routes and departure times to your destination in over 100 cities and urban areas (e.g. NYC, London and Berlin), which is perfect if you want to get to your destination as soon as you can. Other days, however, you have time to enjoy your city a little and wander off the beaten path. You can then use ‘transport nearby’ to see when the bus, tram or train is leaving from the stops close to you.
Detailed line view
When you are traveling or you are in a new area of your city, you might feel a bit disoriented and not sure when your stop is coming up. Now you can view upcoming station names and stopping times while in transit, so you can enjoy your journey, even to a destination you have never been to before.
Multiple tiles support
You can now pin all you favourite destinations to your start screen making it easier than ever to quickly figure out your route. Directions to get to your favourite restaurant, that lovely park you like to read a book in, and the vintage shop with great finds are all now easily accessible from your start screen.
Improved search
Last but not least, we have also improved the search engine in Nokia Transport: the app now remembers your last searches and you can change your search details without leaving the journey view.
The future of Nokia Transport
As you know, we are continuously updating Nokia Transport with new features and more coverage: this beta is one example of our commitment to commuters and travellers around the world. But it’s not the only one, in fact, we are working closely with many stakeholders such as MTA in NYC to offer a new system of fare payment and validation.
From June 4th to June 29th 2012, a selected group of New Yorkers using LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) will be testing a pilot program that uses NFC smartphones in an un-gated commuter rail system.
In other words, soon enough NFC technology will make Nokia Transport evolve into a complete experience, from journey planning to ticketing.
