Our SIM-free Galaxy Nexus in the PC Advisor office has received the update bringing the device to the latest version of Android. The download is 149.9MB but users with handsets attached to a mobile operator may have to wait longer for the upgrade. See also: Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) review.
The notification reads: "This software update will upgrade your Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which improves performance and responsiveness system wide."
As well as a slicker interface, as is found on the Nexus 7 tablet, it gives access to Google Now, the firm's new intuitive form of search. Dictation can be used offline if desired and notifications can be expanded to show more information and contain buttons.
Google said the Nexus S and Motorola Xoom will be the other devices to first get the update to 4.1 Jelly Bean. If you don't automatically get notified about the update you can check manually. See also: How to manually upgrade an Android smartphone or tablet.

I just received my galaxy nexus on t-mobile (it's great) but--
ReplyDeleteI went into devices--system update--and saw that it was downloading an android 4.1 update. I figured this was great, so I left the phone on wifi.
About 75% of the way through the process, I checked, and it said "download failed" There was a button at the bottom stating "retry download," but doing so did absolutely nothing.
Is there something I'm missing here? I have the phone on wifi right now, and nothing is happening. When I revisit the "system update" window, it still says "download failed," and pressing the "retry" button does nothing.
Will I ever be able to update my system?
PS: fyi, this is a stock phone I've done absolutely nothing to except add a few apps. Ive had it one day.
