Huawei to Build China's First Coherent 100G OTN for Gansu Administration of Radio, Film and Television
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced that Gansu Administration of Radio, Film and Television has picked Huawei to deploy a new generation provincial backbone network using industry-leading 100G technology. This will be the first ever coherent 100G optical transport network (OTN) in China.
Gansu Administration of Radio, Film and Television is facing an increasing need to upgrade its SDH-based provincial backbone, driven by new bandwidth-intensive services, such as video on demand and high definition (HD) video, and rapid growth of broadband users. The network will adopt coherent 100G technology, and advanced OTN and automatically switched optical network (ASON) architectures, to meet service requirements for the next five years. Network deployment will also comply with the overall plan of the Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB) project of the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT).
Huawei's 100G solution uses mature coherent detection technology to achieve a future-proof capacity of up to 8 Tbit/s per fiber. The solution can greatly enhance network flexibility and efficiency, by virtue of its support for mixed 10G/40G/100G transport and multi-service (for example, TDM and IP) access, multiplexing and cross-connection, the latter of which empowered by Huawei's self-developed 100G OTN technology. Furthermore, the solution provides an intelligent ASON control plane, which supports resilient protection against multiple fiber cuts and guarantees high network reliability. The control plane also enables operable and manageable bandwidths by offering a richer variety of service classes.
To help customers optimize their overall technical architecture and adopt next generation transport networks, Huawei conducted the world's first pan-European 400G field trial and unveiled a brand-new series of products in 2012, including a 10 petabit all-optical switch prototype PPXC, a flexible-grid WDM prototype with the industry's highest spectrum efficiency, and a 2T WDM prototype. Huawei has deployed 100G networks for more than 40 operators around the world. According to consultancy firm Ovum, Huawei ranks No. 1 in the global optical network, WDM/OTN, 40G/100G network markets, as of Q2 2012.
