iPad mini shipments expected to reach 8 million in 4Q12, say Taiwan makers

iPad mini shipments have been short global demand, and shipments in the fourth quarter of 2012 are estimated at eight million units, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Taiwan-based makers have prepared 10-12 million iPad mini's worth of components for shipping in the fourth quarter, the sources indicated. However, supplies of touch panels has been insufficient, the sources pointed out. Therefore, only eight million iPad minis are expected to be shipped in the quarter.

As yield rates increase, iPad mini shipments in the first quarter of 2013 are likely to rise to 13 million units, the sources estimated.
