Nokia Clarifies: Windows Phone 7.8 Updates Not Coming Until 2013
Early this morning we brought you word that Nokia appeared to be getting the ball rolling with Windows Phone 7.8 updates – fantastic news for all those WP7 fans who aren’t yet ready to upgrade to a whole new handset just to use Windows Phone 8. Problem is, it now looks like that news was jumping the gun a little, and a Nokia spokesperson has clarified just what was going on with that update.
While it’s true that the WP7.8 update had started going out, it turns out that this was a targeted release to bring the update to certain pre-production handsets. That may give Nokia some time to fine-tune the update prior to its public release, which the company explains won’t be happening until early next year. With news of this extremely limited WP7.8 distribution getting so much attention, Nokia wanted to speak up about the situation so that users didn’t end up too disappointed when their updates failed to arrive.
We know, an even longer wait is no fun at all, but with any luck we’ll see the full-blown Lumia 800 WP7.8 update (along with those for other Lumias)
