Canonical introduced a mobile version of Ubuntu
Canonical introduced a specific interface for smartphones based on its popular operating system Linux Ubuntu, using, according to the developers, all four sides of the screen of a mobile device.
Thus, as stated in the company, Ubuntu provides a unique opportunity for mobile phone manufacturers and operators to combine phone, PC and thin client in one corporate Superfone.
The presented version of Ubuntu is aimed at two main mobile market segments: high-end smartphones and entry-level smartphones, where the telephone interface offers a new user experience, including:
- Edge magic (Magic edges): gestures with his thumb to the four edges of the screen allow users to find content and switch between applications faster than on other phones.
- Deep content immersion: the controls appear when the user wants to access them.
- Beautiful global search applications, content and products.
- Text and voice commands to any application for easy access to the rich features.
- Support for native, web and HTML5 applications.
- Customizable welcome screen.
