Kantar: in Europe, the market share of Windows Phone rises to 5.4% in Italy to 13.9%
Research firm Kantar market has released the latest data on smartphone sales recorded during the last 12 weeks of 2012 in Europe and in other parts of the world. As you can see from the table below, compared to previous revelations data show further growth in the market share of Windows Phone in Europe (5.4%) and the confirmation of Italy as the country with the best performance, with a percentage stood at 13.9%.
These figures are positive and bode well for the future of the mobile platform from Microsoft, whose merit is certainly attributed to Nokia and its Lumia series of devices but also the valuable smartphone with HTC Windows Phone 8 (8X and 8S) . The good sales results that these devices are getting seem to have enticed other OEM to adopt Windows Phone on their products, such as Asus, according to some recent rumors, it would be interested in making a Padfone version of Windows Phone 8.
But back to the numbers of Kantar. The figures show us an interesting growth of Windows Phone in the UK (5.9%), a country that had so far recorded a little interest in this platform. Still rather low, however, is the market share is in USA (2.6%) and China (0.9%), where Android dominates. However, it is plausible to think that with the spread of low-cost device ready for marketing (Lumia 620 and Huawei Ascend W1) these figures will increase significantly, especially in the vast Asian country.
