Huawei Introduces Solution for Enterprise Software-defined Network
Tailoring ICT infrastructure to suit enterprise’s individual needs
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, introduces its solution for enterprise software-defined network (SDN) at CeBIT2013, demonstrating its strategic vision for SDN in the enterprise domain.
Following the introduction of the Huawei SDN SoftCOM strategy for telecom operators in February, Huawei is committed to providing enterprises with ICT infrastructures that are tailored to their needs through the Huawei enterprise SDN strategy, which is characterized by cloud-based operation, multi-layer openness, convergence and evolution, as well as ease of management.
With the continuous evolution and development of enterprise networks, chief information officers are increasingly challenged by problems that reduce the efficiency of the overall enterprise network and ICT infrastructures. For instance, with the separation of the underlying network and upper-level services, network development is slow and fails to keep pace with service change, making the network too complex to manage or control. With Huawei Enterprise SDN solutions, customers will be able to address these challenges and develop service-friendly, highly-efficient, and easy-to-control ICT infrastructure for enterprises.
Multi-layer SDN infrastructure ensures network management at ease
Huawei believes that evolution from the current network to the future SDN network will be a smooth transition instead of a total transformation. In Huawei’s vision of SDN, the SDN architecture consists of three layers: the network device layer, the control layer, and the management and orchestration layer. One of the core concepts of Huawei’s Enterprise SDN strategy is multi-layer openness, which enables the Huawei Enterprise SDN solution to be well aligned and linked to service needs of different users. For instance, internet service providers require IT infrastructure vendors to open the network device layer for customized development and network adaptation for providing existing services. The SRP (a routing protocol developed by Tencent) switch jointly developed by Huawei and Tencent, a leading internet service provider in China, is based on the openness of the control plane at the equipment layer of Huawei switches. This is a typical case of uploading Tencent's self-developed routing protocol onto Huawei switches and currently, both companies have completed the first phase of collaboration.
Cloud and convergence are also key components of the Huawei Enterprise SDN concept. Leveraging their experience of more than 20 years, and a competitive advantage in the ICT field, Huawei seeks to achieve end-to-end convergence of multiple fields such as data centers, campus networks, and wide area networks. Convergence, control, and management of physical and virtual networks make it possible for cloud data centers to be smart and agile.
During CeBIT, Huawei also showcases its virtual migration solution; nCenter, where data center network and virtual devices can be linked and migrated efficiently. When there is a need to migrate virtual devices, the virtual device management platform will send a signal to nCenter, where nCenter configures and distributes a policy on the network to enable virtual devices to migrate automatically. Such a practice has significantly simplified network operations and management, increasing service efficiency.
