Huawei's Core Router Delivers Faster Connections for Hutchison 3G in Austria

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that its new Huawei IP core routers have helped boost Hutchison 3G Austria's (H3G) data performance. Two new data centers are now fully operational in the country's capital Vienna, providing H3G with more capacity, as well as opening up higher data transfer speeds for users.

H3G Austria started the year off with an exciting start following the acquisition of Orange Austria, during which H3G's market share climbed to 22 percent, making the telecom company the third largest mobile operator in the country. With fast-paced market growth in the country requiring increased capacity from data centers, the company was challenged with meeting the growing needs of its increasing customer base.

The changeover to the new Huawei IP core routers began at the end of January and was completed in late April, without any interruption to service.

Martin Washietl, Head of Core Packet Technology, Hutchison 3G Austria, said: "The decision to upgrade our data centers with high-performance routers from Huawei was paid off immediately. This was due to the rapid deployment and implementation of new technology and services, combined with the smooth handling of the changeover by Huawei's team of experts, which meant that we did not encounter any network down time whatsoever. Huawei has many years of network technology experience under its belt, and this makes it an ideal partner for us in helping us to retain our competitive edge."

The merger led to a considerable increase in H3G's number of customers, all of whom required the same level of high quality service they received in the past. In order to meet these new challenges, H3G upgraded its data centers and took active measures to improve capacity planning and efficiency by adopting Huawei's new IP core routers to increase data transfer speeds for Austrian mobile users. In addition to increasing network coverage and capacity for customers, the upgrade will reduce costs for H3G over the longer term.

Günter Haberler, Vice President, Huawei Austria, said: "The cooperation between H3G and Huawei is exemplary. The teams were able to complete the project within just three months, well ahead of the scheduled time frame. Not only is network traffic now faster and more secure than ever, but we have also significantly increased bandwidth capacity for their customers. H3G is very pleased with our performance, and Huawei looks forward to future projects and a long-lasting cooperation with 3 Austria."
