MoDaCo.SWITCH for the Galaxy S4 i9505
About MoDaCo.SWITCH
MoDaCo.SWITCH is not a custom ROM. It sits atop a ROM to offer a whole new approach to using multiple custom ROMs. In the past if you wanted to run different ROMs on your device - for example Samsung TouchWiz and stock Android or CyanogenMod - you'd have to manually flash between them and set up your data again every time you switched - certainly not ideal. SWITCH resolves this problem.
Multiple ROMs, one set of data
The core feature of MoDaCo.SWITCH is the ability to maintain one set of data between multiple custom ROMs. Switching from the heavily modified manufacturer ROM to the stock Google ROM? No problem, all your apps - and most importantly the settings for all your apps - will still be maintained. Just carry on using your phone!
Simple switching, simple updating, community support
With MoDaCo.SWITCH you don't have to boot into your recovery image and mess around flashing different ROMs... the Switch app does it for you. One click - 'Do you want to switch?' - and the device reboots to your new ROM in a process that's barely longer than a regular boot.
Updating to a newer version of SWITCH is simple courtesy of the built in over-the-air update mechanism powered by otaupdatecentre.pro - a service sponsored and supported by MoDaCo.
A forthcoming SWITCH companion app will help you manage aspects of SWITCH, and a SWITCH kitchen (Switchen?) for MoDaCo premium members (also included with some pledges) allows you to turn on and off different bits of ROM functionality as desired.
If you need support for SWITCH, head on over to the support topic on the MoDaCo forums for peer to peer help (and help from us of course).
Proven success
The campaign to bring MoDaCo.SWITCH to the Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 comes on the back of the HTC One release, which has been critically acclaimed and widely used. You're not buying into an idea, you're buying into a product that's being successfully used by thousands of people on a similar device already.
What is the funding paying for?
This campaign is designed primarily to fund test devices to develop the software on. It's also an interesting way to gauge interest in the product. Of course, a massive amount of time is spent on this kind of project too which isn't covered by the funding target.
Often development is done for fun and to further the community, but there are always real physical and considerable time costs involved.
The plan for MoDaCo.SWITCH is to make the system available for ROM developers everywhere to use across a wide range of devices - your pledge will help us get closer to making that a reality.
