Apple seeks to ban Samsung phones after dodging iPhone ban

After dodging a ban on its iPhone and iPad thanks to a veto by the U.S. government, Apple is looking to turn the tables and go after Samsung now, to get a few of the company’s devices banned from import into the country, devices that have been found to violate some of Apple’s patents. Meanwhile, Samsung is looking to appeal a ruling that found Apple devices to not have infringed on three of Samsung’s patents.

While the Samsung devices in question make up just around 1% of the Korean manufacturer’s sales, analysts believes it’s not about the money or about the usefulness of the ban. “Sometimes, the money’s not enough,” said Ray Van Dyke, a technology-patent lawyer with the Van Dyke Firm in Washington. “Between Apple and Samsung, it’s about who’s going to be the top dog. You want to shut them down. This is the club. You can beat them into submission with a club and maintain your top dog status.”

Basically, it’s a fight that isn’t going to end soon, and armed with the confidence of a cancelled ban on its own products, Apple looks to be gearing up to go in guns blazing while it has the chance. What will be the outcome? No one knows, but the proceedings aren’t going to get any less exciting any time soon.
