Rostelecom launches a network of third generation mobile communications in St. Petersburg

In August 2013 Rostelecom launched into commercial operation in St. Petersburg, the first segment of its own network of third generation mobile communication (3G +). Rostelecom in the construction of third-generation networks using modern technology HSPA +. It provides data rates up to 21 Mbit / s (in contrast to the first networks of 3G, which provided a much lower speed - up to 3.6 Mbit / s), so it is called 3G +. In the future, the Company plans to expand the network capacity and to provide a maximum speed of 42 Mbit / s. According to the statement, the number of base stations in St. Petersburg in the near future will continue to increase, which will achieve a high density of coverage of the region. During the construction of the mobile network Rostelecom relies on its own fiber-optic network with high bandwidth, which allows you to expand high-speed capabilities of technology HSPA +. By August 2013 Rostelecom has already built and tested a 3G network in 22 regions of the country. Total planned to install more than 8 thousand base stations across the country. Suppliers of equipment and solutions for the 3G + network are companies Ericsson and Huawei.
