Sony has showed a profit for the last quarter
Sony has successfully completed the 2012 fiscal year and the beginning of a new well on the rise. The first fiscal quarter (for the company this April - June) was recorded 13% growth in operating profit and net income of $ 35 million. Although the latter figure does not sound too impressive for a company of this magnitude, but a year earlier in the first quarter was a net loss of $ 248 million. At constant currency, revenue decreased by 3%. During the first quarter of 2013 the company has shipped 9.6 million smartphones, while the previous quarter the number was limited to 8.1 million, and in 1Q2012 - 7,4 million units. Revenues increased by 36.2% (14% at constant exchange rates) to 3.92 billion, driven not only by the growth in smartphone sales, but also an increase in their average cost. In addition, the division has brought $ 71 million profit in the form of patent royalties. Operating income was $ 60 million, against 285.8 million loss a year earlier. Game division brought 1.19 billion dollars in revenue, but higher costs for R & D, associated with the release of PlayStation 4 resulted in a loss of 149 million dollars. Division of Imaging Products & Solutions, responsible, including for the delivery of photos and video brought operating income of 82 million dollars, but sales declined by 10.4% to 1.75 billion, which is associated with a decrease in the volume of the market of this technology. Managed to slightly improve the situation with the sale of television and audio equipment, receiving 34 million in operating income due to 18.2% growth in sales of Sony TV. Sony Pictures and Sony Music have brought $ 38 million and $ 109 million in operating income, respectively.
