Samsung Leads Smartphone Market in Middle East

Samsung Electronics' flagship Galaxy S3 is now the top-selling smartphone in the Middle East.

U.S.-based IT market researcher IDC said on Thursday that sales of the S3 outpaced those of Apple's iPhone 5 and even Samsung's latest Galaxy model, the S4, in the second quarter. IDC also said that nearly half of all smartphones sold in the Middle East during the period were made by Samsung.

Nokia continues to have the largest share of the region's mobile market overall, with more than a 45 percent stake in the second quarter, followed by Samsung with 18 percent and Apple at 11 percent.
