SMS crashes SE W850
Here is the poster's description:
"I have 3 new messages. I browse through my messages, and when I choose Sms of Doom from Pekka, the phone crashes. It does recover pretty soon, thou. And the content of the message was something like "Are you gonna watch Finland - Azerbaidzan somewhere?" . The exact content is not known, for obvious reasons."
I wonder if this clip is genuine and if so why did that SMS crash the phone. Strange...

The story went, if I recall it correctly, something like this.
ReplyDeleteA friend sent me an MMS, a picture of a baby of our common friend. While receiving the message, I ran out of battery. The phone started to act a bit strange, and after a few restarts and removing the battery, this is how it behaves.
No being doubted on whether this is real or not, I reinvestigated, and found out that the evil mr. PEKKA has two entries in my phonebook. I thought that removing the other one would fix the problem!
Propably it would, if I could delete the contact. I can view it on my list, but deleting, or opening it, you guessed it, crashes the phone. Then I tried not to view the contact, but edit it. That worked fine to the point until I tried to save the changed contact. You can guess what happened...
Thanks for visiting my site and explaining more on what happened. This is really weird. Maybe you can get rid of this by reflashing your phone?
ReplyDeleteLatest update to the software didn't help, but I'm not much of a mobile-tech-guy. So perhaps I just need to dig in to my manual... Perhaps a "master reset" would do the trick, but if resetting only settings wouldn't help, I would need to reset all. And loose all my messages (from which large part I cannot read anyway), and a lot of numbers and contacts, not to mention Chess Master (6€) and Midnight Party Poker (4€).
ReplyDeleteThe SE support told be to take it to service, but I sort of lack the time / interest in that. And I need the calendar daily, it has my meetings 2 months ahead. Plus I somehow doubt that when I would get the phone back, a lot of data (including the 10€ games :-) ) would be gone.
