Verizon Business Expands Global Ethernet Capabilities
Ethernet Access to Private IP Now Available in Canada and Latin America; Ethernet Private Line Coverage Increased in Central and Eastern Europe; Increased Speeds Available in Europe and Asia-Pacific Regions
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Verizon Business has further expanded the global availability of its market-leading Ethernet capabilities, enabling even more enterprise customers to benefit from high-speed, secure, easily scalable connectivity. Verizon Business Ethernet access is now available in almost 40 countries worldwide - nearly double the availability since the start of 2007.
Ethernet Access to Verizon Private IP has been extended to Canada and Latin America, and European availability has been enhanced. In Latin America, access is now available to Verizon Business customers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia; and in Europe to customers in the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Portugal and Slovakia.
Support for access speeds up to GigE (1,000 Mbps) is now available in select countries in Europe and Asia Pacific, providing granular access to Verizon's IP and Private IP Services from 1 Mbps all the way to 1,000 Mbps using a single-access technology.
In addition, European availability of Verizon Ethernet Private Line (EPL) has also been expanded in Europe to the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Portugal and Slovakia, with support for speeds of up to GigE as standard.
Mike Marcellin, vice president of global product marketing, Verizon Business, said: "Multinational corporations are increasingly turning to high-bandwidth Ethernet connectivity to cost-effectively transport their mission-critical data. Ethernet enables both existing and new business applications to be easily delivered and managed across the business' wide area network. It is therefore an ideal solution for companies wishing to migrate to a converged IP environment, or enhance application availability to their global network of offices."
Verizon Business is also extending its Converged Packet Architecture (CPA) to Asia Pacific and Europe. CPA converges all services, whether IP or traditional data, onto a single-packet access connection via an Ethernet interface at speeds of up to GigE, allowing customers to more easily and efficiently scale bandwidth or make other adaptations. It supports a full range of legacy and next-generation services including IP, Private IP, Ethernet, Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS). All services supported over CPA are designed to support a variety of applications including mission-critical data, voice and video.
CPA is now available in five locations in Asia Pacific and 46 locations in the United States and is being expanded to 19 key cites in Europe during the remainder of 2007.
The Metro Ethernet Forum, a leading Ethernet authority, recognizes Verizon Business as a leading provider of global Ethernet services. Verizon Business has been awarded the 2007 European Carrier Ethernet Service Provider of the Year Award for Service Innovation from the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), recognizing its comprehensive and robust Ethernet portfolio, European geographic coverage, and ongoing industry innovation. Verizon also received the MEF's 2007 Carrier Ethernet Service Provider of the Year - U.S. Category award.
Verizon Business' Ethernet portfolio includes:
Ethernet Private Line (EPL) - available in 21 European countries, with metro, national and international connections to and from the U.S.
Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) - available in the U.S., six Asia Pacific countries and to and from 16 European countries.
