AIS Selects Nokia Siemens Networks to enable strategic Service Delivery
AIS aims to reduce cost and significantly improve time to market for new services
Leading Thai mobile operator, AIS, has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to provide a Service Delivery Platform solution, based upon leading technology from jNetX, one of its key technology partners. The solution provides a cost-effective means of creating new services on both circuit-switched and packet-switched networks. The use of common industry standards and advanced application development tools empowers AIS’s Service Creation team to greatly reduce the time it had previously taken to launch new services.
AIS is the market leader in wireless services in Thailand, with over 23 million subscribers, and a market share of close to 50%. Regarded as the most innovative operator in this market, AIS wanted a flexible platform to more easily and quickly build new services, while being able to control and predict costs for each service. In order to achieve this, the solution needed to enable converged voice data services across both legacy circuit-switched and also next generation IP-based networks.
Using the significant experience of Nokia Siemens Networks in planning and deploying Service Delivery Platforms, together with technology from jNetX, AIS is now able to create and launch new services quickly and cost effectively, and leverage both mature circuit switched technology and next generation IP-based technology. The platform will enable AIS to develop new multimedia, multi-network call handling services (e.g. personalized call screening and ring-back, and enterprise centrex) on the same platform, re-using both software and hardware assets in order to save time and money.
“AIS’s business goals of reducing time to market while controlling costs of service development and maintenance are key to increasing our lead in the Thai market. NSN’s jNetX-based solution enables swifter and more sustainable service creation based upon industry standards and best-in-class processes,” said Khun Arpattra Sringkarrinkul, EVP - Solutions, AIS.
“This decision by AIS endorses Nokia Siemens Network’s view that Next Generation service delivery is not just about a product, but about an evolution, where maximizing the return on legacy assets is just as important as preparing for Next Generation technology,” said Sean Morgan, head of Consulting and Systems Integration Asia Pacific, Nokia Siemens Networks. “Consulting and Systems Integration is uniquely positioned to deliver the business benefits for AIS as they seek to enhance their own leadership position in the Thai market. Our track record of network operational references around the world is testament to our ability to optimize the end-to-end performance of networks, service platforms and terminals”.
Currently, Nokia Siemens Networks has jointly won more than 150 consulting projects around the world, delivered more than 500 systems integration projects and is one of the strongest reference portfolios in this growing business field. The company manages networks that altogether serve more than 130 million subscribers worldwide. The growth of Nokia Siemens Networks’ Consulting and Systems Integration services business is based on developing and delivering business solutions in a close, long-term partnership with operators.
“The AIS project is another example where a flexible service delivery layer can harmonize the legacy service architecture and add clear value to an operator’s efficiency in the network,” added Tim Hearon, General Manager at jNetX APAC. “The platform, coupled with NSN’s expertise on jNetX for service creation and delivery, empowers AIS with a standards-based, fully integrated solution with online charging capabilities and services across convergent networks.”
