(New Product) Samsung launches sale of its first AMOLED-equipped handsets
SEOUL, (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- SSNJY | charts | news | PowerRating -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday that it has launched the sale of its first handset model equipped with active-matrix organic light emitting diodes (AMOLED) for screen panels.
AMOLEDs consume less electricity than other display screens since they don't require back-lighting and are lighter and cheaper to produce. They also show more vivid images than other display panels, making them a next-generation display technology for many small mobile devices.
Samsung Electronics said that it launched only 1,000 units of W2400, a modified version of its SPH-W2400 which is equipped with LCD panels, in the local market. The new model is priced at around 500,000 won (US$541), the company added.
