Nokia Siemens Networks ahead of the curve as the drive towards 5 billion connected accelerates

Amsterdam, Netherlands, December 04, 2007

Nokia Siemens Networks is sharing more of its vision of 5 billion people connected by 2015 at the Nokia World event in Amsterdam, and showing its broadening range of innovative solutions that help service providers harness robust subscriber growth in new growth markets and grab more value in mature markets. An increasing focus on emerging markets is one of the cornerstones of the company’s strategy to lead industry transformation.

The communications industry is undergoing profound change, triggered by factors including rampant subscriber growth in high-growth, low-ARPU markets like India and China; fierce price pressure; content – and therefore value – continuing to shift towards the Internet; the emergence of new business models; and the acceleration in demand for software, services and solutions. Nokia Siemens Networks believes these trends will spark 100-fold growth in traffic by 2015.

Through its strategy of “consolidate, leverage and transform” Nokia Siemens Networks is already addressing these challenges. At Nokia World, Nokia Siemens Networks will dig deeper into areas where it is now leveraging its broad industry know-how to transform itself and its customers to find and capture value in the industry in transition:

- Connecting the next two billion people
- Addressing the 100-fold growth in traffic
- Convergence stoked by the spread of the Internet
- Changing business models and the drive to simplify networks
- Broadband everywhere

“Our business is no longer just about delivering networks, it is about meeting our customers’ challenges related to connectivity, efficiency, revenue growth or business transformation,” said Simon Beresford-Wylie, chief executive officer of Nokia Siemens Networks. “As the industry changes, we need to change as well. As a result, we have brought our transform strategy forward and will relentlessly focus on innovation and transformation into a true solutions company.”

Underlining its ability to drive convergence between the telecom and Internet worlds, Nokia Siemens Networks will show its new, innovative Communication Key at Nokia World. The Key is a USB device with built-in SIM authentication that allows PC users to engage in not only voice calls, but also video sharing and other rich communications with the same ease and convenience as making mobile phone calls. Operators can capture value by combining Internet services with telecom services, and master delivery of those in a multi-network, multi-device environment.

Live demonstrations include Nokia Siemens Networks’ pioneering Internet-HSPA (I-HSPA) solution, introducing scalable flat architecture to 3G networks and providing the first important step towards Long Term Evolution, as well as its Mobile WiMAX solution that offers state-of-art personal mobile broadband. The company is also showcasing how its 3G Femto Home Access solution extends 3G coverage indoors for enhanced voice and mobile broadband data service. For bridging the digital divide, the innovative Nokia Siemens Networks Village Connection solution with its new business model brings coverage and connectivity to the people in remote villages in new growth markets. The demonstrations show how far the company has come in its drive to simplify network architecture and provide connectivity to the next two billion people.

The company will also show its mobile backhaul solutions, which help operators and service providers shift the traditional TDM/ATM traffic onto a packet evolution infrastructure, thus meeting the requirements for cost optimization, high service scalability and laying the foundation for expanding broadband usage.

Nokia World takes place on December 4-5 in Amsterdam. On December 5 at 1000 CET Nokia Siemens Networks will hold its Management Roundtable on the changing communications market, with participation by Services head Rajeev Suri, Service Core and Applications head Juergen Walter, Operations and Business Software head Christian Fredrikson, and North America’s Harald Braun. The roundtable will be webcast liveat: www.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/global/Events/Nokia_World_2007/Webcast.
