Telia Stofa Selects Motorola Hybrid Set-Top Box for Denmark
Telia Stofa deploys Motorola hybrid cable/IP set-top box for the launch of new enhanced TV and video on demand service in Denmark
COPENHAGEN, Denmark – 03 December 2007 - Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT) today confirmed that Telia Stofa has selected the Motorola hybrid cable/IP set-top box (STB) for the launch of its Danish cable/IP video service – a first for the cable industry. With Motorola’s hybrid STB, Telia Stofa can deliver new services in Denmark that enhance the capabilities of its existing cable network with the additional flexibility and interactivity of IPTV.
The first new service that Telia Stofa will launch using the hybrid STB will be video-on-demand (VoD), utilizing the IP connection to communicate with the operator’s VoD server and the high-speed cable network to deliver the video to the customers STB. In addition, the IP connection allows Telia Stofa to manage and monitor the STB to ensure customers receive the best performance from the equipment and highest quality video service.
Telia Stofa selected the Motorola VIP 1920-9C/IP set-top box, which incorporates KreaTV™ set-top software. The KreaTV software provides a robust, flexible platform which supports the rapid expansion and development of new services across the hybrid STB, including compelling interactive applications.
“The Motorola hybrid solution is perfect for cable providers like Telia Stofa looking to rapidly launch interactive services to an expanding subscriber base with minimal impact to its existing infrastructure,” said Joe Cozzolino, corporate vice president, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility, EMEA.
“We’re committed to supporting operators that are looking to deploy the most competitive and compelling enhanced TV services and this announcement is yet further indication of the growing consumer demand for personalized media experiences.”
“Telia Stofa sees a variety of opportunities in interactive TV. User trials indicate that the market is mature for on-demand services, subsequently we are aware of the consumers demand for better TV-signals and influence on the programme mix. We have developed our own middleware and graphic user interface. It has been a very focused and intense project working together with suppliers of many different components in order to deliver the project on time. In particular, our co-operation with Motorola has been very good,” said Kaj Skov, CTO for Telia Stofa, TeliaSonera’s Danish cable-TV-provider.
Motorola is the acknowledged leader in video network solutions, having deployed more than 2,500 digital headends in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. This leadership extends to IPTV headends and cable video networks. Motorola is also a world leader in digital set-tops, having shipped more than 60 million cable set-tops and more than two million IPTV set-tops.
