Motorola Introduces 2008 Collection of TALKABOUT Two-way Radios at CES -- with Expanded Features for Emergency Preparedness for Home & Flexible Chargi
Radios Combine Reliable Two-Way Communication with Localized Weather and Emergency Alerts from the National Weather Service
LAS VEGAS – 7 January 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced five new series of Talkabout® two-way radios at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Unveiled at CES as part of the 2008 portfolio of consumer two-way radios, the new EM1000 and T9580RSAME radio series introduce feature sets designed to provide total emergency preparedness for the home. In addition, Motorola has introduced the affordable FV300, SX600 and SX900 series, which cater to everyday communication needs offering compact designs and a variety of feature sets to choose from.
“The Motorola TALKABOUT EM1000 and T9580RSAME series of two-way radios enable today's active families to enjoy the great outdoors without missing important emergency and weather alerts," said Marjon De Groot, director of marketing for Giant International, a Motorola distribution ally. “The radios integrate the best of two-way FRS/GMRS functionality with reliable weather and emergency warnings to deliver a powerful communications tool."
Powerful Connections for Total Emergency Preparedness
The Motorola Talkabout EM1000 and T9580RSAME radio series are the ideal communication device for emergency kits for outdoor family adventures. Both models feature an emergency checklist and seven National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Environment Canada (EC) weather channels to provide users with continuous broadcasts of local and regional weather updates.1 In addition, four marine channels are sporadically used (mostly in Canada) for weather broadcasts.
The EM1000R includes an Emergency Alert feature. When the alert button is activated, the radio transmits an alert siren followed by transmission of any spoken or incidental sounds and allows users to send the signal to other radios and warn of impending danger. The T9580RSAME radios also help warn users of emergencies through Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology. SAME technology helps filter out distant warning broadcasts and monitors only programmed localized area, helping reduce the chance of false alarms.2 Leveraging this technology, the Motorola Talkabout T9580RSAME radios display a three letter code for the type of emergency, and a voice message plays when an alert is broadcast from the National Weather Service. The T9580RSAME radios are the first in the industry to offer this service together with two-way FRS/GMRS communications.
The T9580RSAME radios are equipped with Motorola’s Push-to-Talk (PTT) power boost feature. When activated, this feature helps extend the transmission range by increasing the transmitter power output – while helping to save battery life when no power boost is necessary.
Convenient Communication With Clear Connections
The EM1000R features a built-in LED light for peace-of-mind during evening adventures or unexpected emergencies and power outages. The radios also come equipped with both the standard dual drop-in charger, charging adapter, 2 NiMH battery packs and a mini-usb port for convenient charging.
Both series allow users to maintain clear connections with convenience and flexibility to fit every lifestyle. With 22 channels, each with 121 privacy codes, users have 2,662 combinations of communication channels to choose from. Additionally, hands-free communication is available by using the iVOX speech-activated feature, which provides outdoor enthusiasts and active families the freedom of mobility in even the most remote settings.
Pricing
The Motorola Talkabout EM1000R radios have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $69.99 per pair ($59.99 for EM1000 alkaline only version) and the Motorola Talkabout T9580RSAME have a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $89.99 per pair.
