Motorola’s SURFboard® SBV5422 Brings Converged Cordless Voice and Data in a Single Unit to Simplify the In-Home Consumer Experience
New Digital Voice Modem and Integrated DECT Cordless Phone System provides easy, convenient whole-home phone and high-speed data solution
Horsham, PA – 3 January 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the next-generation SURFboard SBV5422 Digital Voice Modem and Integrated DECT Cordless Phone System designed to deliver convenient whole-home telephone and data services over cable’s broadband connection to the home. A single, reliable infrastructure for communication services, the SBV5422 enables IP telephony, high-speed data and new cordless phone technology that can be simply installed by consumers and help reduce unnecessary costs for operators by virtually eliminating truck rolls.
Showcased at booth #8545 (Central Hall) at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the SBV5422 extends Motorola’s portfolio of media mobility products that delivers fully-integrated solutions, can be personalized by consumers and offers revenue-generating opportunities to operators.
Equipped to support both basic and IP-based handsets, the SURFboard SBV5422’s use of IP-based handsets allows operators to offer additional value-added IP services to consumers. The SBV5422 packs multiple great features into this plug-and-play product, yet consumers only receive a single monthly bill for voice and data services.
“A long-time leader in the development of modem and voice technology, Motorola combines its expertise and innovation to deliver a simplified, personalized in-home experience for consumers with the SURFboard SBV5422,” said Alan Lefkof, corporate vice president, Motorola Broadband Solutions Group. “The self-installation feature of this product allows consumers to simply plug it in and get their voice service up and running just as they’re accustomed to with high-speed data service. It is truly a plug-and-play product.”
“The Motorola SBV5422 IP-based handsets enable operators to leverage the Casabi™ network, making it possible for them to offer customers a completely customizable experience,” said Neville Street, CEO of Casabi Inc. “From integrating unique carrier services like voice mail and e-mail, to branding the phone screen with their custom logo and icons, our network-based solution teams well with Motorola’s SBV5422 to offer consumers this unique, powerful and personalized home communication tool.”
Real-time information including weather forecasts, news briefs and sports scores can be viewed on the screen of the cordless phone handset, delivering content that is on-demand, personalized, secure and integrated. In addition, the Motorola SBV5422 IP-based handsets, together with the Casabi network, enable a number of consumer-friendly experiences, including:
self-installation and a personalized phone experience.
a network-managed address book that provides anywhere access, maintaining updated contact information on your home phone, PC and mobile phone, eliminating the need to pull out your mobile phone at home to find a contact phone number.
a visual voice mail list that delivers Caller ID, message length and time/date stamp so you can play, save or forward voice mail messages in any order you choose.
simple e-mail access from anywhere in your home – no PC required – to quickly read and respond to e-mails and receive e-mail message notifications on the screen of your home phone handset.
finding a local plumber or neighborhood pizza place with a Yellow Pages application that allows you to search by category or keyword and then click to call, all from your phone handset.
sending and receiving SMS messages from your home phone.
The SBV5422’s digital voice modem provides up to two lines of primary, full-featured digital voice telephone service, using industry-standard signaling protocols. Compatible with DOCSIS® 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 and PacketCable™ 1.0 and 1.5, the SBV5422 technology is based on the already certified and qualified SBV5222 SURFboard Digital Voice Modem. Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony (DECT) enables the delivery of data content and services to integrated IP connected handsets.
