New entry level phones supporting six JSRs


On January 24, 2008 in Delhi, India, Sony Ericsson announced four new phones for entry level market segments, all featuring FM radios and supporting six JSRs.

The new R300 Radio and R306 Radio mobile phones are Sony Ericsson's first phones to be designed around the AM/FM radio. The new T270 and T280 also feature FM radios and include Bluetooth™ connectivity.

Placing radio at the heart of the phone
The new R300 Radio and R306 Radio mobile phones are the first Sony Ericsson phones to place the AM/FM radio at the heart of the phone.

Focused around the radio and offering high-quality radio listening, both phones have dedicated radio speakers, preset channel buttons, 3D sound, volume boost, radio alarm clock, record/playback functionality and TrackID™ music recognition.

The R300 Radio has a "stick" form factor with a high-performance speaker on the back. The R306 Radio is a clamshell phone with the exterior doubling as quality stereo speakers that face out towards the listener. Both phones are triple band GSM/GPRS.

T270 and T280: elegant and affordably priced
The new T270 and T280 mobile phones are both dual band GMS/GPRS phones using the "stick" form factor, featuring a FM radio and Bluetooth™ connectivity. These are elegantly designed yet affordably priced phones. The T270 keeps things simple without a camera but the T280 includes 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom.

Both the T270 and T280 will be available during Q1 2008 in selected markets.

Java™ ME in entry phones: six JSRs
These four phones are designed for entry level market segments yet still feature six JSRs giving developers the opportunity to create content, for example messaging and file & image uploading/downloading applications:
- CLDC 1.1 (JSR 139)
- MIDP 2.0 (JSR 118)
- Wireless Messaging API (JSR 120)
- Java™ Technology for the Wireless Industry (JSR 185)
- File system packet API of the PDA Optional Packages for J2ME™ Platform (JSR 75-FC)
- Mobile Media API (JSR 135 - Audio playback and snapshot only)
