Freescale and key development partners demonstrate advanced mobile solutions at Mobile World Congress

Technology on display from Advanced Geospatial Solutions Ltd., AMD, BSQUARE, Lime Microsystems, Mentor Graphics, Opera Software, QNX, Telsa and VirtualLogix

BARCELONA, Spain (Mobile World Congress) - A broad array of multimedia solutions and development tools powered by Freescale Semiconductor technology is on display this week at Mobile World Congress. Freescale is teaming with several of its top partners to show off some of the industry's most compelling and advanced multimedia technologies.

The Freescale and Ecosystem Partner demonstrations are in Hall 8, Booth 8B91 and include :

• 3D city navigation for mobile and personal navigation devices : Advanced Geospatial Solutions Ltd. (AGS) and TeleAtlas present a 3D visualization solution that enhances current navigation products by providing city landmarks, buildings, points of interest and terrain capability. This is available as an API that allows integration into existing navigation solutions. It is fully scalable, and an SDK is expected to be available soon for common platforms. Mapping rendering uses the OpenGL ES feature on Freescale's i.MX31 applications processor.

• Next-generation graphics and multimedia for mobile devices: AMD presents demonstrations of AMD's Adapt II platform, a demonstration platform for manufacturers and content developers. The platform is based on the Freescale i.MX31 applications processor and includes the AMD Imageon M180 media processor offering ultra-fast, high resolution image processing, DVD-quality video and high-definition audio for compelling mobile multimedia experiences. AMD will also demonstrate its cutting-edge OpenVG graphics technologies chosen by Freescale for future i.MX application processors. AMD's OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG graphics technologies are engineered to enable immersive games, compelling user interfaces, navigation, animations and Flash content on next-generation mobile devices.

• Lime Multi Standard 450 MHz to 4 GHz Broadband Infrastructure Transceiver Advance Mezzanine Card (AdvancedMC TM ): Lime will demonstrate a MicroTCA TM AdvancedMC TM broadband transceiver reference design. The platform uses a ColdFire ® processor from Freescale, which acts as a radio control plane processor to software select multiple interfaces, such as LTE and WiMAX, over a broad frequency range.

• Nucleus OS on i.MX31 applications processor delivering high-end mobile experiences, high performance and proven mass market reliability : Mentor Graphics' Nucleus software has shipped in billions of consumer products worldwide. With over 20 years of embedded expertise, you can be sure that they know how to get the best out of any target silicon. This demonstration highlights how the Inflexion Platform UI framework for Nucleus OS can help customers unlock the power of the Freescale i.MX31 applications processor, enabling the rapid and radical customization of end device user interfaces and delivering a great visual experience with minimal development effort -- all without the overhead and cost of an open OS.

• Web 2.0 on your mobile: Opera Software and BSQUARE present a collaborative solution that optimizes the browsing experience of Internet sites containing multimedia content for handheld devices. See Opera's advanced browsing capabilities, Freescale's i.MX31 optimized architecture, and BSQUARE's integration of the very latest audio, video and Adobe Flash Lite 3 plug-in technology.

• A powerful Adobe® Flash-based framework from QNX for accelerating embedded UI design: QNX Software Systems is demonstrating its graphics, multimedia and applications framework middleware suite for mobile devices on the Freescale i.MX31 applications processor. Ideal for resource-constrained mobile devices, the suite comprises an Internet-ready fully-networked application framework, multimedia engine (audio/video), and reference applications, all seamlessly controlled by an easily customized Adobe-Flash based HMI. Full 3D navigation capabilities, based upon the NavNGO iGO software, will also be shown.

• Telsa WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) solution: Telsa presents their offering for WiMAX CPE services that target indoor multimedia content distribution. Freemax CPE, based on Freescale's MPC8323E PowerQUICC ® II Pro reference design, is integrated with WiMAX 802.16e-2005, Ethernet 10/100 Base T, WiFi ® 802.11 b/g and Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) using two analog phones. Freemax Series 3000 provides a range of broadband services useful for business enterprises, public safety applications, construction sites, rural communities, school and education platforms, campus, residential users and many other clusters.

• Virtualization providing secure m-commerce capabilities on i.MX31 applications processor : VirtualLogix demonstrates how virtualization on the i.MX31 applications processor provides a secure m-commerce environment during various security breaches. The VLX Hypervisor is shown supporting Freescale's secure boot, secure key storage and secure user input and output within an Open OS environment. The Open OS is securely isolated from a closed Trusted Execution Environment where secure m-commerce transactions can safely take place.
