Inventec Appliances posts record earnings in 2007
Inventec Appliances saw its net earnings surge 58% on year to a record high of NT$3.25 billion (US$107.6 million) in 2007, the company said after a board meeting. The profits translate into a net earnings per share (EPS) of NT$7.04 for 2007 compared to NT$4.46 in 2006.
Gross margin climbed to 10.3% in 2007, up from 7.3% a year earlier due to an improvement in operating efficiency and product mix, the company said.
As a main supplier for TomTom and Palm, Inventec is expected to see its revenues back on a growth track in 2008 after suffering negative growth in revenues during the last two years, according to sources at Taiwan-based securities firms. Inventec posted consolidated revenues of NT$92.65 billion in 2007, down 12% on year, the company said.
The company's shipments of PND products to TomTom are expected to top 7-7.5 million units in 2008, compared to 4.5-5 million units shipped in 2007, according to estimates by sources at securities firms in Taiwan.
However, the sources also estimated that Inventec's revenues for the first quarter of this year are expected to decline 40% sequentially from the previous quarter due to decreased orders for the iPod classic from Apple.
