Motorola Showcases New Wave-2 Ready CPEi 150; Mobile WiMAX Demonstrations at CTIA Wireless 2008

Powers WiMAX experience at Motorola, XOHM™ locations and for ecosystem outdoor WiMAX mobility demo

ARLINGTON HTS., Ill., – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) introduced the plug-and-play desktop CPEi 150 for indoor fixed WiMAX deployments, the latest 802.16e-compliant Wave-2 ready addition to Motorola’s award-winning WiMAX consumer product portfolio.

The new CPEi 150 features one data port, supports remote management and operates in the 2.5GHz band. As a true plug-and-play device, the CPEi 150 automatically connects to the WiMAX network and authenticates itself for easy setup. An intuitive graphical interface also lets users troubleshoot and personalize their services. The CPEi 150 is scheduled to be available for service providers during Q2 2008.

“Service providers are turning to fixed, portable and mobile WiMAX to extend coverage and add more wireless voice, video and data services to satisfy subscriber demand,” said Motorola senior vice president Fred Wright, who oversees Motorola’s WiMAX, LTE and other wireless technologies. “We continue to roll out products that enable data-rich and bandwidth-intensive applications for fixed, portable and mobile WiMAX users and deliver on the promise of media mobility.”

The CPEi 150 is fully compliant to the IEEE 802.16e-2005 technology standard, which enables both fixed and mobile use. It and other products in Motorola’s CPE portfolio will be delivered for WiMAX Forum® certification to ensure interoperability among the global WiMAX ecosystem.

Motorola will showcase the CPEi 150 and other customer premises equipment in its end-to-end WiMAX portfolio as part of its media mobility showcase in booth #1806 at CTIA Wireless 2008 in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) Apr. 1-3.

As at CES earlier this year and recently at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Motorola is participating with ecosystem partners Intel, Clearwire and XOHM to offer mobile WiMAX “test drives” around the LVCC using real-world WiMAX applications that demonstrate WiMAX from an end user’s perspective. Internet video will be streamed live from the WiMAX equipped vehicles to the Motorola booth, providing attendees a glimpse of mobile WiMAX.

In addition, Motorola is teaming with Sprint to power WiMAX demonstrations using Motorola PC cards at the WiMAX Lounge which is sponsored by major WiMAX, and will also provide WiMAX infrastructure within the XOHM Booth (#1648) for the XOHM pods where external PC devices from other ecosystem vendors will interoperate with Motorola’s infrastructure. Finally, Motorola’s WiMAX infrastructure will support live demos of its devices within the XOHM booth.

Motorola’s flexible wi4 WiMAX access point portfolio, which includes the WAP 400, 600 and 800 series, can be easily configured to support a wide assortment of coverage, capacity, and application scenarios utilizing an array of options including macro, micro, sectorized, omni, tower-top electronics, high-power distributed electronics, MIMO and smart antenna techniques.

Motorola is a global leader in mobile WiMAX with 19 WiMAX contracts and more than 75 engagements in 44 countries worldwide.
