Sony Ericsson invites Compal Communications to bid for 2009 low-cost handset orders, says paper
Sony Ericsson has invited Compal Communications to participate in a bidding for orders of five ODM handsets, including low-cost and mid-range models, to be launched by the vendor in 2009, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. Sony Ericsson switched most of its low-cost ODM orders from Compal to Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS) in the second half of 2007, the paper noted.
Compal is emerging, once again, as a potential supplier for Sony Ericsson now that CMCS has already received 2009 orders for 30 million ultra low-cost handsets from Motorola, while Arima Communications, another ODM handset maker for Sony Ericsson, is reluctant to accept orders for low-cost handsets, the paper said.
