Amoi lands Windows Mobile-based smartphone orders from Vodafone
China-based Amoi Electronics has landed orders to manufacture smartphones for Vodafone, making the company the third supplier of Windows Mobile-based mobile devices for the UK-based telecom services provider, according to sources in Taiwan's handset industry. Vodafone currently purchases Windows Mobile smartphones from High Tech Computer (HTC) and Asustek Computer.
Amoi is expected to start shipping the smartphone, codenamed Amoi 6711, to Vodafone in the third quarter of this year, said the sources.
Amoi is also selling different versions of the Amoi 6711 to Orange and AT&T, with Orange marketing the device as the SPV E610 and AT&T to offer the handset as the SMT5700, the sources noted.
