Huawei tapped to expand Bayan' s wireless landline network
Manila, Philippines--30 April 2008] Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has announced that it has been awarded a CDMA network expansion contract by Bayan TELECOMMUNICATIONS ("Bayan"). Under the agreement Huawei will provide an advanced ALL IP CDMA2000 end-to-end solution for the operator, including intelligent network, transmission, and microwave products.
Bayan is the largest wireless landline provider running on the CDMA platform in Philippines, and it is the majority owner of the second-largest long-distance backbone network. Bayan is also one of the fastest growing telecom operators in the country, with wireless landlines subscribers rapidly developing with over 150,000 subscribers.
In the Philippines, SMS is the most popular service because of the expensive call rates of mobile service. Thus, in order to provide affordable and abundant communication services to users, Bayan sought to deploy an all-IP based CDMA network, reduce the TCO and sustain competitiveness.
Huawei's ALL IP solutions, coupled with environmentally-friendly technologies such as its Green Base Station Solution meet the demands of Bayan's development strategy by expanding the coverage of the network by more than 15% while decreasing the power consumption of the network by more than 20 percent.
"With our wireless landline service, we are giving Filipinos their voices back," said Bayan Chief Executive Consultant Tunde Fafunwa. "We are giving them the opportunity to make unlimited local calls while being mobile, and as more and more consumers recognize the value of the service, we need a reliable partner in building our network and we believe Huawei is the right choice."
"We are delighted to be chosen by Bayan as their key partner in wireless landline network deployment," said Mr. Zhang Sen, Huawei South-Asia Region Vice President of Service & Delivery. "And as a global ALL IP CDMA leader, we look forward to continuing to contribute to the development of telecommunication industry in the Philippines."
To date, with the experiences in large scale networking in complex CDMA wireless environments, Huawei has deployed 320 thousand TRXs of CDMA networks in the world. The year of 2007 witnessed that Huawei has gained almost 44.8 % market share in global emerging CDMA market.
