Taiwan market: Nokia to launch customized Nokia 6124 classic i-mode in May
Nokia plans to launch a customized 6124 classic handset in cooperation with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) in May, according to the companies.
The Nokia classic i-mode, which supports 3.5G HSDPA technology, will be Nokia's first customized handset that supports NTT DoCoMO's i-mode value-added services, said CK Cherng, general manager, Nokia Taiwan.
FET, which is NTT DoCoMo's partner for the promotion of i-mode services in Taiwan, has already teamed up with other international vendors, including Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, to jointly launch handsets that support i-mode services.
In other news, Nokia is also expected to tie up with SK Telecom of South Korea to jointly launch 3.5G-enabled handsets by the end of 2008, according to market sources in Taiwan. Nokia retreated from the South Korea handset market in early 2003 due to poor sales, the sources noted.
