XPERIA panel user experience
The XPERIA X1 enables end-users to personalise their experiences through a distinctive touch screen, panel-based UI. This continually active desktop allows end-users to organize the phone's active dashboard as they want, changing between panels as moods, activities and information needs change during the course of a day.
A dedicated XPERIA panel key on the phone will enable end-users to toggle between different user experiences by changing active desktops - or XPERIA panels. End-users can install additional XPERIA panels and configure the XPERIA panel behavior/settings.
As mentioned in the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 White paper, here are some examples of preloaded XPERIA panels:
Sony Ericsson Panel: Panel to read news, finance, world clock, weather and shortcuts to communication and applications
Media Experience Panel: Center for Multimedia consumption & navigation
Slideshow Panel: Cool slideshow of recently taken videos and pictures
Microsoft Today Panel: This Panel is the actual Microsoft today screen
3D fish Panel: A cool panel which will showcase the 3D features of the phone (A fish tank with 3D fishes)

Operators will also be able to custom build the touch panels that run on the XPERIA X1 to provide end-users with a rich, aggregated offering of their applications and services. In addition, Sony Ericsson also plans to align with key partners around the panel technology to enable them to develop exciting applications that can be enjoyed by end-users on the XPERIA X1.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be available in selected markets in the second half of 2008.
