E-Ten expected to launch dual-SIM Windows Mobile smartphone at Computex 2008

E-Ten Information Systems is expected to unveil its dual-SIM smartphone, the DX900, at the upcoming Computex 2008 IT trade show, which will make the firm the first handset vendor in Taiwan to market a dual-SIM Windows Mobile-based handset, according to market sources.

The DX900, which is powered by a Samsung Electronics 533 MHz processor, will feature a 2.8-inch GVA display, a 3-megapixel camera and support 3.5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS technologies, according to the sources who are familiar with E-Ten's product roadmap.

With Acer expected to complete its acquisition of E-Ten in the third quarter of this year, Acer is likely to launch its first Acer-branded smartphone at the end of this year or in early 2009, the sources estimated.

Since Acer has adopted a multi-brand approach in the PC segment, Acer is expected to keep E-Ten's Gloffish-branded smartphone lineup, while also pushing forward the deployment of Acer-branded handsets, the sources noted.
