Ericsson selected to maintain Telefónica's fiber optical network in Brazil

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has signed a managed services contract with leading Brazilian operator Telefónica to maintain its new fiber network. The strategic partnership will allow Telefónica to reduce operational expenditure and focus on its core business.

Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will supervise and provide preventive and corrective maintenance services for Telefónica's fiber network in São Paulo state, beginning in April 2008.

This new agreement will allow Telefónica to reduce costs and streamline network management and operations. It will enable shorter time to market for new services while ensuring customers that these are first rate.

Johan Wibergh, President, Ericsson Brazil, says: "We are proud to be chosen by Telefónica and entrusted with the end-to-end supervision and maintenance of its optical fiber network. This partnership reaffirms Ericsson's multivendor capabilities and reinforces our market leadership in managed services."

As the largest telecom services company in the world, Ericsson has officially announced more than 100 managed services contracts with operators worldwide since 2002, and Ericsson supports networks that handle more than one billion subscribers worldwide.
