Ericsson to cooperate with Zyxel and Wistron NeWeb for IP STB production, say sources
Taiwan network-equipment makers Zyxel Communications and Wistron NeWeb have been chosen by Ericsson as partners for the production of IP STBs (set-top boxes), according to sources at Zyxel and other market sources.
Under the cooperation, sales of Zyxel's IP STBs will be bundled with Ericsson's IPTV solutions, Zyxel said.
With its IP STBs still undergoing testing, Zyxel expects to start shipping the products to Europe initially in the second or third quarter of this year, the company indicated.
In addition, Zyxel will join the Open IPTV Forum, of which Ericsson is one of the founding members, and the company will also cooperate with Ericsson in the development of new IPTV solutions, based on IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) technology, said Zyxel.
