FIH reportedly to forge partnership with China-based Longcheer
Foxconn International Holdings (FIH), the Hong Kong-listed handset subsidiary of Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) reportedly is in talks to establish a strategic partnership with China-based handset design company Longcheer Holdings, according to industry sources in Taiwan and China.
The partnership includes the possibility of a complete acquisition of Longcheer by FIH or an equity investment in the handset design company by FIH, the sources noted, adding that talks are likely to be finalized in June or July.
FIH would be able to strengthen its ODM capability in handset design as well as its manufacturing technology in the TD-SCDMA segment if it finalizes a deal with Longcheer, the sources contended.
Longcheer is currently one of the top-three handset design companies in China and the company also engages in the assembly of handsets, with handset shipments totaling 10 million units in 2007, the sources noted.
