GMT audio amplifier chips adopted by Motorola
Taiwan-based analog IC designer Global Mixed-mode Technology (GMT) has entered the supply chain of Motorola supplying audio amplifier chips for use in the US vendor's handsets built on the Texas Instruments (TI) LoCosto platform, according to industry sources.
GMT's audio amplifier chips are being shipped to Motorola via handset maker Compal Communications, with monthly shipments reaching one million units, the sources said.
Compal has adopted GMT's solution because it is much cheaper than TI's audio amplifier chips, the sources said. For the LoCosto platform, Compal sources 60-70% of audio amplifier chips from GMT, and the rest from TI, the sources added.
