HTC Mobilizes for Sichuan Earthquake Relief
Taoyuan, Taiwan – HTC Corporation (TAIEX: 2498; “HTC”), a global leader in mobile phone innovation and design announced its plans to donate NT$50 million (approx. US$1.63 million) in support of the relief and reconstruction efforts in China’s Sichuan province following the devastating earthquake this past week. The donation is to include NT$40 million in funds donated directly by HTC and HTC Social Welfare Foundation and NT$10 million in personal contributions from HTC employees.
“On behalf of HTC and our employees around the world, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to those affected by the earthquake in China’s Sichuan province,” said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corp.
With social responsibility as a cornerstone of its corporate citizenship and business values, HTC will channel donated funds through recognized relief organizations focused on rebuilding homes and schools and to assist the many children in need.
Looking to extend donations beyond what has been committed by HTC and the HTC Foundation, HTC Chairman Cher Wang, Board Director H. T. Cho and Chief Executive Officer Peter Chou today issued an e-mail appeal to HTC’s 7,000 employees worldwide to encourage them, their families and others to contribute during a special week-long donation drive. Resulting donation commitments will be bundled with HTC and HTC Foundation contributions and channeled to earthquake relief and reconstruction efforts.
