Taiwan market: Taiwan Mobile to launch BlackBerry Pearl 8012
Taiwan Mobile (TWM) will begin marketing RIM's BlackBerry Pearl 8012 in Taiwan in June targeting both business and individual subscribers, the company said.
TWM, in cooperation with RIM (Research in Motion), aims to push the number of its BlackBerry-service subscribers to 10,000, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted Norm Lo, vice president for Asia-Pacific at RIM, as indicating.
TWM's major business clients for BlackBerry services include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), MediaTek, JP Morgan and Citicorp, with TSMC and MediaTek already having installed BlackBerry enterprise server (BEE) in-house, TWM noted.
In addition to BlackBerry services, TWM's business-client unit also offers broadband Internet access, Ethernet networking, IDC (international data center) and IP-VPN services to its business clients and the company expects revenues generated by its business-client unit to grow by 20% on year in 2008.
TWM currently has a total of 270,000 broadband subscribers, including 200,000 using ADSL and another 70,000 using broadband cable. TWM expects the number of its broadband subscribers to top 400,000 by year-end 2008, accounting for a 10% share of Taiwan's broadband market.
