Huawei Attains No.1 Position in Global DSL Market

[Shenzhen, China] Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has announced that a recent report by industry consulting firm Broadbandtrends, ranked Huawei first in the global DSL market with a market share of over 31%. This demonstrates Huawei's leading position in the global broadband access market.

According to the report, published in Q1 2008, Huawei has seen increased DSL port shipments even as total industry sales declined 14%.The report also shows that IP DSLAM Ports represent 75 percent of total DSL ports and Huawei also ranks No. 1 position.

"Huawei took the lead in introducing IP technology into access networks in 2001 by creating the world's first IP DSLAM equipment," said Mr. Yang Zhirong, President of Huawei's Access Product Line. "With the transformation of the broadband DSLAM market from ATM-based to IP-based technology, Huawei has become a global leader in access networks."


By Q12008, Huawei had shipped a total of 150 million lines of access equipment including 70 million DSLAM ports to over 96 countries and regions. In optical access market, currently Huawei has built the world's largest GPON FTTH network and provides optical access solutions to more than 40 operators in the world, including British Telecom, KPN Telecom N.V., Telefonica, SingTel, Etisalat, China Telecom and China Netcom.
