Samsung Soul Phone Sales Atop 1 million in the First Month
Soul phone, Samsung’s new global strategic mobile phone, has sold one million units in the first month of its sales.
The phone, which was first unveiled at the MWC 2008 held in February in Barcelona, Spain, features touch icons changing according to the application on the OLED screen. In the U.K., the first two weeks sales amounted to 80,000 units, coming into the second place of the hit mobile phone list. Total sales in the country topped 280,000 units, said Samsung.
In Germany, the sales exceeded 150,000 units in one and a half month thanks to hero marketing activities with Michael Ballack, a German soccer player who now plays at Euro 2008.
Samsung plans to launch the phone in China, Southeast Asia, and Russia to continue the momentum. The phone is also set to be released by SK Telecom and KTF in Korea.
The local version of the phone sports terrestrial DMB and HSDPA that enables video calls and wireless Internet at 7.2Mbps.
Samsung said, “Soul is a premium phone made to deliver user convenience by partly featuring touch keypad while retaining slider form factor. Soul phone will join the list of the next ten million seller phones.”
