Taiwan makers urged to develop DVB-T mobile handheld devices
Taiwan makers are being urged to develop DVB-T mobile handheld devices due to the potential market for the products, while the market for DVB-H is developing slowly, said Yannick Levy, CEO of DiBcom, in Taipei recently.
Germany, which has a population of 80 million people and has been using DVB-T devices since 2002, has a potential demand for several millions or even tens of millions of DVB-T devices, and the country is expected to become the world's third largest market for mobile TV after Japan and South Korea, Levy stated.
Vodafone has teamed up with LG Electronics and Taiwan-based Gigabyte Communications to roll out DVB-T mobile handsets, Levy indicated.
In other news, DiBcom's shipments of mobile TV solutions have exceeded 10 million units, accounting for a 75% of the global mobile TV solution market, the company said.
In Taiwan, DiBcom has been cooperating with a number of companies, including High Tech Computer (HTC), Mitac International, Qisda, Asustek Computer and Lite-On Technology, Levy revealed.
