Winning Photos from a Viewtyful World
- $10,000 prize to Marcelo Mol with his photo published in National Geographic
- LG’s online photo contest, ‘Viewtyful World’ received total 20,751 photo submissions from around the world
June 19, 2008, Seoul, Korea : LG Electronics (LG) , a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, and producer of the LG Viewty, a 5-megapixel professional-level camera phone, announces the winner of the ‘Viewtyful World’ online photo contest.
Marcelo Mol, the final winner of ‘Viewtyful World’, will have his photo of a girl in the mirror featured in a Viewty advertorial in National Geographic magazine. He will also receive a payment of US $10,000 for the use of his copyrighted photograph.
“It is simple, graceful and beautiful. It is just a small moment in this woman`s life, but it is an honest, enduring moment. The photographer communicates these timeless, classic elements and emotions directly to the viewer`s heart,” said Raymond Gehman, the judge of ‘Viewtyful World’ who is a National Geographic photographer.
The ‘Viewtyful World’ photo contest (www.viewtyfulworld.com) ran from April 8th to June 10th, and contributors submitted photos with three themes: “Night Scenes,” “Retouch” and “Moments.” The eight-week contest was sponsored in association with Yahoo and its subsidiaries Flickr and Kelkoo, and National Geographic magazine, the benchmark of the best photojournalism in the world. The online response was very receptive with total 20,751 photos submitted.
“Overall, I was very impressed with the excellent quality of these images,” said Raymond. “The biggest surprise to me was the amount of ‘close to the heart moments’ that the contest entrants submitted.”
The contest aimed to provide opportunities to explore the diverse places surrounding our lives and rediscover the wonders and attractions of these worlds through photography. LG expects this contest will inspire novice photographers to explore and capture the beauty around them.
“We are amazed at the participation in the Viewtyful World photo contest. It truly shows how people from around the world love photography and beautiful images,” said Chang Ma, Vice President of LG Electronics Mobile Communication Company’s Marketing Strategy Team. “Based on the success of the LG Viewty, we will keep designing better camera phones so people can capture those perfect images wherever they go.”
Garnering huge attention in the mobile communications market, about two million LG Viewty handsets have been sold in around 60 countries worldwide since its launch in the European market.
