Zyxel shipments of WiMAX products to US market remain steady
Shipments of Zyxel Communications' WiMAX products to the US have remained steady, and have not been exposed to recently rumored problems related to WiMAX chips, according to Zyxel.
Zyxel made the remarks amid market rumors stating that certain shipments of Taiwan-made WiMAX CPE products designated for the US market will be delayed due to the use of chips from Runcom which have failed to meet the requirements of US service operators.
Zyxel, which began to ship WiMAX routers to Sprint Nextel in the first half of 2008, said that it has been using chips from sources other than Runcom for US-bound products, and so the company's shipments to the US market are not affected by the problems, although Zyxel still remains a customer of Runcom.
The rumors erupted soon after the WiMAX Forum, on June 17, announced the first 10 mobile WiMAX products had received WiMAX Forum certification for operation under the 2.5 GHz frequency band, which included mobile station module products from Zyxel as well as from Beceem Communications and Sequans Communications.
In other news, Taiwan-based WiMAX hardware makers believe that the WiMAX Forum's June 17 announcement will accelerate the deployment of commercialized WiMAX services by Clearwire and Sprint Nextel in the US.
