Global WiMAX CPE production value to top US$170 million in 2008, says TRI
The global production value of WiMAX CPE (customer premise equipment) products is expected to grow 151% on year to US$170 million in 2008 and will continue to expand to US$364 million by 2011, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) quoted data from Taiwan-based market research firm Topology Research Institute (TRI) as indicating.
Having begun volume production of 802.16e Wave 1 products, Taiwan network-equipment makers, including Gemtek Technology, Zyxel Communications and Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB) have also entered testing of 802.16e Wave 2 devices, the paper quoted sources at TRI as saying.
Gemtek is expected to start shipping 802.16e Wave 2 products in August this year and the company's combined shipments of 802.16e Wave 1 and Wave 2 devices are likely to reach 130,000 units in the third quarter, compared to 160,000 802.16e Wave 1 products shipped in the first two quarters, EDN quoted sources at Gemtek as reporting.
