Huawei to deploy WiMAX 16e Network for Mobilink in Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan] Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced today that it has been selected by Mobilink, the largest GSM operator in Pakistan, to deploy a commercial WiMAX 16e network. The network will cover central business districts and hot spots in the country' s six major cities, including Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Under the terms of the contract, Huawei will provide Mobilink with a complete WiMAX solution including distributed base stations, an access service network-Gateway and a network management system. Huawei' s WiMAX solution will help Mobilink meet the country' s increasing broadband needs.

In Pakistan land is privately owned and there are few copper-line connections. To save both cost and time, Mobilink is adopting WiMAX technologies to provide its subscribers with high-speed Internet access services.

Huawei' s mobile WiMAX solutions combine the most advanced 4G technologies with multi-modal platforms, to provide Mobilink with high-quality network coverage. It is able to integrate Mobilink' s existing 2G networks with high-bandwidth capacity networks in the shortest possible time.

To date, Huawei has won 19 commercial WiMAX contracts in Europe, Asia, North America, CIS, Middle East and Africa, and has conducted 35 trials worldwide. Since 2001 Huawei has been standard-tracking IEEE 802.16 and researching key technologies. With more than 1,200 engineers engaged in WiMAX R&D, Huawei has contributed 5% of WiMAX related patents in the world.
