LGE ships over 300,000 handsets in Taiwan market in 1H08
LG Electronics has shipped over 300,000 handsets in the Taiwan market in the first half of this year, accounting for an 8.3% market share in terms of unit sales, according to Finsen Chen, vice president of telecom business unit at LGE Taiwan.
Robust sales of CDMA and entry-level 3G handsets helped drive volume sales in the first half, Chen stated.
By July, LGE's handset sales in Taiwan will surpass the 350,000 units it sold in 2007, Chen indicated, noting that the company will be able to accomplish its 2008 goal to ship 700,000 handsets for a 10% share in the local market by year-end.
LGE on July 9 launched four new handsets in Taiwan, the 5-megapixel cameraphone KC550, clam-shell KF300, sliding-form factor KF310 and the Internet handset KT520.
The company also plans to introduce an additional 15 new handsets in the local market in the second half, including eight 3G models, four 2G handsets and three CDMA handsets, Chen noted.
