LG leads global CDMA handset market for six consecutive quarters in 2Q08
LG Electronics led the global CDMA handset market for the sixth straight quarter in the second quarter of this year, with shipments totaling 12.7 million units and accounting for a 27.5% share in the segment, according to handset makers citing data released by Strategy Analytics.
The 27.5% market share was the highest level that LG has ever achieved in the segment, compared to 25.9% recorded in the first quarter of this year and 18.1% of the same quarter of a year earlier, the makers indicated.
The second ranked CDMA handset vendor, Samsung Electronics, shipped 8.2 million CDMA handsets for a 17.7% market share in the second quarter, and Motorola followed with shipments totaling 5.1 million units for an 11% share, the makers said.
LG's sales of CDMA handsets in the US market in the second quarter alone reached 7.6 million units, accounting for nearly 60% of its entire CDMA handset shipments, the makers added.
