MediaTek July revenues expected to grow close to 20% on rebound in China handset market
Handset industry players expect MediaTek's consolidated sales in July to reach NT$8 billion (US$259.38 million), which would represent a monthly increase of about 18% from the NT$6.8 billion in consolidated sales the company reported in June. The sources added that July's sales may have a chance to surpass the company's monthly record of NT$8.33 billion reported in April in 2008. Sales in August will remain flat from July's level as well, the sources forecast.
Industry sources in China's white-box handset sector indicated that demand has rebounded due to the arrival of the Olympic Games, and that the handset supply chain has been very active since July.
The handset industry sources indicated that if demand holds up in China, MediaTek may be able to increase its sales by 10-15% sequentially in the third quarter, as shipments of white-box handsets to other emerging markets such as India, South Africa, Eastern Europe, Russia and Brazil will also see a sequential increase.
