Smartphone shipments to EMEA market rise over 28% on year in 2Q08, says Canalys
Sales of smartphones in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) market reached 12.57 million units in the second quarter of 2008, representing a 28.2% on-year growth, according to market research firm Canalys. However, the growth was at its lowest level over the past 18 months.
Nokia's shipments of smartphones to the EMEA market grew at a moderate pace of 14.6% on year to 8.95 million units in the second quarter and accounted for a 71.2% share of the segment, compared to 79.2% of a year earlier, Canalys noted.
High Tech Computer (HTC) saw its smartphone shipments to the EMEA market surge 118.7% on year to 880,000 units in the second quarter, accounting for a 7% share, Canalys said.
